Difference Between Arteries and Veins

What is the Difference Between Arteries and Veins?

The Major Difference Between Arteries and Veins is that Arteries Carry Blood from the heart and oxygenated blood except pulmonary artery, bright red in color and can feel a pulse while Veins Carry Blood to he heart and De-Oxygenated blood except pulmonary vein and dark red in color which can’t feel pulse.

Arteries Vs. Veins Difference in Tabular Form

 ArteriesVeins
1.Arteries carry blood from heat, carry oxygenated blood except pulmonary artery)they carry blood to heart, carry deoxygenated blood( except pulmonary vein)
2.no valves presentvalves are present
3.they can feel a pulsethey can’t feel pulse
4.further divided into arterioles.further divided into venules.
5.bright red colordark red color
6.have elastic walls that expand with surge of bloodthin and less elastic walls
7.blood pumped into single systemic artery called aortablood return via interior and superior venae cavae and coronary sinus
8.they are very deep and are protected by tissuesthey are also deep and superficial
9.end in blood capillariesstart in blood capillaries
10.if blood is not present, still they do not collapse or cut across.collapse when there is no blood in it also can be cut across.
11.their pathways are fairly distinctthey have numerous interconnections
12.have predictable drainage or supplythey are just alike arteries except dural sinuses and hepatic portal circulation
13.the blood pressure in side arteries is highin veins, the blood pressure is low
14.they distribute blood to body organscollect blood from body organs
15.arteries have small lumenthe veins have large lumen
16.spurty or fast movements of blood with giving pulsethey show sluggish movement of blood

What are Veins?

Veins are the blood vessels which can carry blood from the all parts of the body to the heart. Veins contain blood which is deficient in oxygen but carbon dioxide except for the pulmonary veins or the veins which carry oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart. Blood contained in veins is called deoxygenated blood. Veins are wider as compared with arteries and have valves to prevent back flow of blood. Wall of the veins is non-elastic.

What are Arteries?

Arteries are the blood vessels which carry blood from the heart to all parts or organs of the body. They carry oxygenated blood except for the pulmonary arteries which carry deoxygenated blood to lungs. Arteries have thick elastic walls and have no valves.

Conclusion:

Arteries and Veins are the major parts of the blood circulation system in any animals on the planet.both play and important role in human body also.the main purpose of these is blood circulation but there is a slight difference between arteries and veins i.e arteries are the blood vessels which take blood away from the heart to the other parts of the body. they are thick and have stronger and smoother valves.on the other hand, the veins are that type of blood vessels that carry oxygen rich blood towards the heart from the different part of the body. they are thin as compared to arteries also having weaker valves.
