Difference Between Ethanol and Methanol

Ethanol and methanol are both alcohols, but they have different chemical structures. Ethanol is made from the sugar in corn while methanol is made by reacting methane gas with water. The Basic Difference Between Ethanol and Methanol is that Methanol is a poisonous chemical and is derived from synthetic processes while Ethanol is usually produced for factory uses to produce fermentation. Both Ethanol and methanol are used as energy sources. methanol is often used for research. Methanol has a higher octane level than ethanol which makes it more suitable for use as an engine fuel.

However, ethanol does not cause corrosion like methanol does and requires less energy to produce. Ethanol also has a lower freezing point than methanol which means that it can be used in colder climates where there may not be easy access to other fuels such as natural gas or propane.
