Cholesterol is a type of molecule that is found in the body but is not necessary for the body to function properly. it is found in the cell membranes of all body tissues, including the brain, nerves, and blood. The body needs some cholesterol, but too much can be harmful.

What is Fat?

There are different types of fat, but they all have the same basic structure: a glycerol molecule with three fatty acids attached. Fatty acids are long chains of carbon atoms with hydrogen atoms attached. The number of carbons in fatty acids can range from 4 to 36.

Fatty acids can be saturated, meaning all the carbon atoms in the chain have hydrogen atoms attached, or unsaturated, meaning there are some carbon atoms in the chain without hydrogen atoms attached.

The different types of fat are distinguished by the type of fatty acids they contain. Saturated fats tend to be solid at room temperature, while unsaturated fats are liquid.

Saturated fats are found in animal products such as meat and dairy, as well as in some plant oils like coconut and palm oil. Unsaturated fats are found in plant oils such as olive, peanut, and canola oil.

The type of fat you eat is important for your health. Saturated fats can raise your LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels and increase your risk of heart disease. Unsaturated fats can help to lower your LDL cholesterol levels and are a healthier choice.
