Autotrophs
Autotrophs are organisms that have the ability to make their own food for which they use inorganic substances; generally they are elements of nature and they are not living organisms , rather they are, for example, sunlight, water, among others.
Through various internal processes the substances that become the food of these organisms are generated, on the other hand there are the heterotrophs that do need other living organisms to feed themselves, this same makes the autotrophs are considered by many specialists as the first link in the food chain and thanks to this they have a crucial influence on the existence of life on planet Earth.
Characteristics
One of the most common and relevant autotrophic organisms are plants, since in addition to generating their own food through the photosynthesis process , they do so using two vital elements such as light and water. On the other hand, there are organisms of this type such as bacteria , the ability to generate food on their own by an organism is known as primary production and as we said before, one of them is photosynthesis.
The importance of plants in this aspect is that thanks to all this process they produce a high percentage of the oxygen that we breathe and it is crucial for life, this leads us to conclude that autotrophs have been the first type of organisms that have appeared in our planet although there is no accurate explanation about how it appeared.
