Examples of Compounds
The compounds are chemicals consisting of two or more elements on the periodic table. Any compound can be separated by a chemical process, such as electrolysis.
Types of compounds
Depending on the number of elements that substances comprise, compounds can be:
- Binary compounds. Acidic and basic oxides, water or common salt.
- Ternary compounds. Hydroxides, Oxoacids and Oxysalts.
- Quaternary compounds. They are acidic salts and basic salts.
Classification of compounds
- Organic compounds. They originate thanks to living organisms that mix with the element carbon, such as oil, wood or alcohol, for example.
- Inorganic compounds. They are dead substances, that is, contrary to the previous concept. Some contain carbon, but not in the carbon-carbon form.
