Examples of Homogeneous Mixtures
The homogeneous mixture has its own characteristics such as density, melting point, boiling point, and electrical conductivity, and it can be created naturally by processes on the planet or intentionally by humanity, with one goal in mind. An example of this are alloys , for which two metals are melted to create a new one that is more useful.
The main attribute of homogeneous mixtures is that, since the component particles alternate in such a uniform way , it is impossible to distinguish them with the naked eye. They look like this, as if they were a pure substance. Homogeneous mixtures can be presented in three states of aggregation: gaseous, liquid or solid.
30 examples of homogeneous mixtures
- Bronze: it is an alloy made up of copper (Cu) and tin (Sn) mostly. It has a golden to reddish coloration, and is one of the Olympic medals.
- Sterling silver: it has a purity of 99.9%, and the other 0.1% is made up of other metals such as copper. It is used to create jewelry, cutlery and accessories, and for this it has more relevance than pure silver due to its durability and resistance.
- Atmospheric air: it is the air we breathe, and it has a composition that contains approximately 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and a smaller percentage of other gases such as carbon dioxide, noble gases and water vapor.
- Sea water : the water found on the beaches contains mineral salts such as chlorides and silicates, and elements such as sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium, which form corals.
- American coffee : American coffee is the mixture of coffee extract and water. If you add sugar or milk, it will remain homogeneous.
- White gold: it is a homogeneous mixture of two or more metals such as gold, nickel, palladium and silver joined in an alloy. Its components can be separated by means of a fusion, since they become liquid at different temperatures.
- Milk: it is an emulsion that occurs naturally in mammals, which contains fats, water and other components that cannot be distinguished with the naked eye.
- Alternative sweetener: it is a white powder made up of sucralose as the main ingredient. Sucralose is 600 times sweeter than sugar, so only a minimal amount is used, which would be impossible to pack. Therefore, it is mixed with maltodextrin, a low-calorie carbohydrate.
- Liquid detergent: it is an extremely useful cleaning agent that results from the combination of surfactants, flavorings and other substances. Its appearance is uniform.
- Alcohol with water: both liquids, water and ethyl alcohol, are soluble in each other in infinite proportions, so they will always constitute a homogeneous mixture.
- Cupronickel: it is an alloy of copper and nickel, which combines the best characteristics of these metals.
- Colored pencil leads: they are made up of graphite and coloring powders.
- The dough for preparing a cake contains flour, baking powder, milk, egg.
- Chinese ink: contains water, carbon, and more components that give it its consistency, density and adhesion.
- The cement mix is the result of combining cement dust, sand, lime, water.
- The steel is alloy that comes from cast iron with other metals and some carbon.
- The alpaca is the mixture of the metals copper, zinc and nickel.
- The nitinol is the titanium alloy and nickel.
- The constantan is the alloy containing nickel and copper.
- The brass is alloy containing copper and other metal portions.
- The brine is a mixture of water with mineral salts such as sodium sulphate, and comes from the subsoil of certain regions.
- The sulfuric acid concentrate is mixed with 98% of this and other water or other chemical species.
- The dyes for hair containing ammonium hydroxide, flavors and pigments.
- For the sugar to mix with the water, the combination is required to take place at high temperatures. At the boiling point, a dark colored liquid homogeneous mixture emerges.
- The hydrogen peroxide is a mixture of hydrogen peroxide with water.
- The wine is the result of the mixture of fermented grapes.
- The drinks are carbonated water combining with sugars and flavorings.
- Commercial bottled chlorine is a mixture of sodium hypochlorite with a large proportion of water.
- Aerosol deodorant is a mixture of substances. Among them alcohol, isobutane, fragrances. It is a mixture of gases and liquids at high pressure that are released with an atomization.
- Aerosol insecticide is a mixture of gases and toxic agents for insects, which are stored in a container under high pressure.
