Examples of Natural Sciences
For example, biology is a “major” natural science, so to speak, whose work focuses on living things in general; and from it are derived botany and zoology , botany being dedicated to plants and studious zoology of animals . And in turn, entomology , which is the science that studies insects , is derived from zoology. So on until the most specific ones.
Characteristics of the natural sciences
The natural sciences are distinguished by a number of general characteristics:
- They are descriptive : they explain all aspects of natural phenomena and living beings to which their studies are oriented. Also the conditions that help to occur, their causes and their results.
- They document their work: science has as its raison d’être to collect knowledge, organize it and deposit it in books and articles, constituting a valid bibliography approved by the most prestigious institutions. This makes information available to the next generations of students.
- They are interdisciplinary : natural sciences rely on other disciplines to give strength to their contributions. For example: in microbiology mathematical models are used to indicate how colonies of bacteria reproduce exponentially.
