Organic chemistry

Organic chemistry is a branch of chemistry that specializes in the study of organic compounds and their reactions . It is also known as carbon chemistry since carbon is the component of the molecules that are classified in this study. In this sense, it includes other elements such as hydrogen and oxygen, in combination with others such as nitrogen, sulfur, iron, magnesium, chlorine and others.

The study carried out in  organic chemistry focuses on the reaction of substances that determine vital processes such as the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids, fats, vitamins, hormones and other elements that are not only found in the composition of living beings but also the use of substances of organic origin for the human being.

This branch of chemistry has some important characteristics such as:

  • the combustion of hydrocarbons
  • the saponification
  • polymerization of molecules
  • aromatic nuclei condensation reactions and many other processes.

Organic chemistry is closely related to everyday life and industrial processes, an example is food production, since many chemical reactions are generated in the process as well as in the manufacture of substances that require more complex processes such as in the pharmacological industry , cosmetics and other fields.
